With the popularity of Poker  today, sometimes it is hard to believe that the game is a very old one.  The game which you play online today at Littlewoods Poker is actually derived from a game that is more than 500 years old.

The first record of a card game which included hand rakings, bluffing, and betting, was the German game of Pochspeil, which was invented in the 15th century.  The most similar game to poker, however, is As Nas, a Persian game from the 1800s.

The game did not spread outside of Las Vegas until 1980, but it was eventually picked up by card rooms in California, and then later spread to European poker players as well.  Since then, the game has attracted a lot of media attention through the World Series of Poker, and is now a popular choice for poker television shows, and for most casual and tournament poker players, both in casinos, and online.
